Protomelas spilonotus 'spilonotus mozambique' is a species of Lake Malawi cichlid known for its moderately deep body and striking blue coloration in males. Males can grow to about 18 cm in the lake, and up to 21 cm in aquariums, while females typically reach 17 cm. They are characterized by a prominent longitudinal stripe along their flanks, often accompanied by about ten vertical stripes, and males may develop yellow or white-blue heads. They are found in rocky areas near intermediate zones between rocks and sand along the eastern coast of the lake.
