Description

The Siamese algae-eater is a species of freshwater fish in the carp family, Cyprinidae. This bottom-dwelling tropical fish is found in mainland Southeast Asia, including the Chao Phraya and Mekong basins as well as the Malay Peninsula.

Size 3cm to 5cm


✦Tank Size: Provide a tank of at least 20 gallons to allow for adequate swimming space and to accommodate their active nature.


✦Water Parameters: Maintain a temperature range of 75-80°F (24-27°C) and a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. Keep the water clean by performing regular water changes.


✦Tankmates: Siamese Algae Eaters are generally peaceful but can be territorial with their own species. They can coexist with other non-aggressive fish species.


✦Diet: While they primarily eat algae, supplement their diet with sinking algae wafers or blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach.


✦Decor and Plants: Provide hiding spots and ample vegetation like driftwood and rocks.


✦Filtration and Aeration: Utilize a good quality filter to maintain water quality and provide proper aeration.


✦Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended, as excessive brightness may cause stress.
