The Red Head Tapajos, or Geophagus sp. "Red Head," is a freshwater cichlid native to the Tapajos River basin in Brazil. They have a striking appearance, with a bright red-orange head, iridescent scales, and a yellow-green body. Red Head Tapajos prefer a pH level between 7.0-8.0 and a temperature range of 77-82°F. They require a tank with a soft, sandy substrate, plenty of hiding places, and a varied diet consisting of pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods. These fish are generally peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive fish of similar size. However, they can become territorial during breeding, so it's important to provide plenty of space and hiding places. With proper care, Red Head Tapajos can live for several years in captivity.
