Product Description

Discover the unique charm of Bulbasaur, a rare and captivating aquatic species perfect for planted tanks. This mythical Pokémon-inspired fish thrives in calm, well-maintained waters.

  • Water Conditions: Bulbasaur requires stable, warm freshwater with a temperature range of 72–80°F (22–27°C). Maintain a pH between 6.5 and 7.5, with soft to moderately hard water (dGH 5–12). Regular water changes of 20–30% weekly are essential to keep nitrate levels low and prevent stress. A high-quality filter with gentle flow is recommended, as strong currents can disturb this species. Avoid sudden fluctuations in water parameters; use a reliable heater and thermometer for consistency.
  • Suitable Tank Mates: Bulbasaur is peaceful and best kept with other calm, non-aggressive species. Ideal companions include small tetras, rasboras, guppies, and peaceful bottom-dwellers like Corydoras catfish. Avoid fin-nipping or territorial fish such as barbs, cichlids, or large predators. Bulbasaur also thrives in a species-only tank or as a centerpiece in a community setup. Always quarantine new tank mates for two weeks to prevent disease introduction.
  • Feeding Habits: As an omnivore, Bulbasaur enjoys a varied diet. Offer high-quality pellets or flakes as a staple, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and finely chopped vegetables (e.g., blanched spinach or zucchini). Feed small portions twice daily, only what they can consume in 2–3 minutes. Avoid overfeeding, as this can degrade water quality. Occasional treats like spirulina flakes enhance coloration and health.
  • Care Requirements: Provide a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, and live plants (e.g., Java fern, Anubias, or moss). Bulbasaur appreciates dim lighting and open swimming areas. A minimum tank size of 20 gallons (75 liters) is recommended for a single specimen, with 10 additional gallons per extra fish. Perform weekly water testing using a liquid test kit to monitor ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. Quarantine new plants or decorations before adding. This species is sensitive to poor water quality, so a robust biological filter is crucial. Regular observation for signs of stress, such as clamped fins or erratic swimming, allows early intervention. Breeding in captivity is rare and requires pristine conditions with slightly cooler water (68–72°F) and a separate breeding tank. Handle with care during netting to avoid injury; use a soft mesh net. Ensure the tank has a secure lid, as Bulbasaur may occasionally jump when startled. With proper care, this fish can live 5–7 years.
