Venus Goby (Lentipes Venustus)

Lentipes venustus is a small, freshwater goby species belonging to the family Gobiidae. This species inhabits clear, fast-flowing streams and rivers, often in mountainous or forested regions, where it clings to rocks using its fused pelvic fins that form a suction disc.

Lentipes venustus is an amphidromous fish, meaning its life cycle involves both freshwater and marine environments: larvae drift to the sea after hatching and later return to freshwater to grow and reproduce. The species primarily feeds on algae and small organic matter scraped from rock surfaces. Due to its specific habitat requirements, Lentipes venustus is sensitive to environmental changes such as pollution, sedimentation, and disruption of river connectivity, making it an important indicator of healthy freshwater.
