Sulawesi Ancient Lake

Lake Matano and its sister lakes in Sulawesi, Indonesia are among the oldest and most isolated bodies of freshwater on Earth — ancient, crystal-clear, and home to species found nowhere else in the world. This bundle is a tribute to that remarkable ecosystem, bringing together endemic invertebrates that carry millions of years of evolutionary history into your aquarium.

Sulawesi Shrimp are among the most ornate freshwater invertebrates available in the hobby, with intricate patterns and vivid colours that rival marine species. Rice Fish (Oryzias) are peaceful, surface-dwelling fish perfectly suited to the warm, hard water conditions Sulawesi species require. Bucephalandra is a slow-growing, jewel-like aquatic plant that thrives in the same conditions and adds stunning texture to the hardscape. Rabbit Snails are large, slow-moving, and characterful — a beautiful addition to the lower levels. Note: Sulawesi species require specific water parameters (warm, hard, and alkaline) — research their needs before setting up.
