Description
Neolamprologus tretocephalus is a fascinating cichlid from Lake Tanganyika, admired for its unique shell-dwelling behavior and striking coloration. This species exhibits a slender, elongated body with a creamy white to pale yellow base, accented by distinct dark vertical stripes along its body. Males are larger and more vividly patterned, while females remain slightly smaller and subtler in coloration.
Tretocephalus is a semi-aggressive species that thrives in rocky aquascapes with abundant shells or crevices, which they use for breeding and territorial defense. They are best kept in small groups or harems, with careful monitoring to prevent excessive aggression. Their interesting social and breeding behavior makes them a favorite among Tanganyika cichlid enthusiasts.
